As of January 1st, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have reset the cap, ushering in a new wave of applications for two pivotal caregiver pilot programs: The Home Childcare Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot: Direct to Permanent Residence category.

Launched in 2019, these programs emphasize the human element in immigration, offering hope and permanence to those with caregiving experience. The success stories are heartening, with nearly 1,100 caregivers and their families achieving permanent residency in 2022.

IRCC urges interested candidates to act swiftly, considering the Home Child Care Provider Pilot for 2023 reached its cap on April 14, 2023. However, there are still openings for the Home Support Worker Pilot in the same year.

In 2024, a total of 5,500 applications will be accepted under these two pilot projects, signaling a continued commitment to integrating caregivers into Canadian communities. Notably, the cap is now divided between those seeking direct permanent residence and those aiming to accumulate valuable caregiving experience.

All You Need To Know

  • The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot span five years, providing eligible individuals a pathway to permanent residency. A distinctive feature is the absence of the mandatory Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) when securing a job offer from a Canadian family.

  • Applicants, upon receiving a job offer, can apply for an occupation-restricted work permit, engaging in temporary caregiving roles to gain experience. After two years, they become eligible to apply for permanent residence.

  • Qualification Standards:

  • Eligibility hinges on a job offer as a caregiver in Canada or prior caregiving experience in the country. Specific criteria ensure the caregiving experience meets the standards of the Canada Caregiver Program.
