For the Truss Labourer-Material Handler position (LMIA AVAILABLE) in a Lumber Company based in Ontario, our corporate client is looking to hire both local and foreign individuals. Support with getting a Permanent Residency in Canada after 1 - 2 years of work will be provided.
Work with Small Forklift Driver or Order Maker to direct placement of incoming and outgoing material
Keep alleyways and roadways free from obstruction, including wood crosser's that may cause pedestrian and machinery hazards, and ensure general traffic ease
Ensure all material is stacked and secure, crosser's are properly aligned, and load weight is uniformly distributed to ensure a stable and safe stack
Ensure waste bins are unloaded at appropriate times to optimize utilization
Look at the quality of lumber, optimize order stacking and take advantage of space
Inspect all material going into the grinder is unsaleable, to ensure that it is only used as the last resort
Ensure grade of material is attained when order making, while meeting Fonthill, Industry, Customer, and Grading standards
Ensure Quality control of material being loaded; and defective or substandard pieces are not used
If a defective piece is found, ensure it is replaced with a new / good / usable piece at the order making stage, to ensure minimal disruptions to Truss assembly
Co-ordination
Regularly review lumber inventory levels, and report to Truss Foreman of any shortages and overages
Prioritize with Order Maker or SF Driver constantly, to get orders completed on time, to optimize production
Regularly work with others to off-load trains and/or tractor trailers
When outside contractors are working in their area; project manage, monitor activity, and report back to Maintenance or Truss Foreman
Maintenance
Ensure truss equipment is working to specifications
Ensure truss equipment is maintained and repaired in good working conditions before use
Ensure that when doing service work, equipment is locked out, to avoid any health and safety incidents
Provide guidance on any deficiencies or problems
Health & Safety:
· Ensure any deficiencies are noted and brought to the appropriate department (maintenance, garage) or Foreman, making sound decisions to take unsafe vehicles or equipment out of service and repaired
Measures & Monitoring:
Review and complete paperwork on an daily basis for equipment checklist and provide feedback to Foreman
Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored and advises Foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
General:
Follow company procedures to both their letter and intent
Comply with Health and Safety Standards
Complete other tasks as required
Require regular use of tools and industrial equipment where coordination and speed are required
Able to work in a plant or truss yard environment with noise, debris, unsecured materials etc. where attention, caution, and care must be exercised to avoid personal injury
Able to wear protective equipment like hard hats, safety boots, safety glasses and earplugs
Requires physical stamina to stand throughout the shift and lift moderately heavy items
· Some high school or vocational school or apprenticeship courses
· 1 – 2 years’ experience working as a Labourer, industry experience is an asset.
General knowledge of lumber and building products
Able to perform manual tasks
Basic English – Reading and Writing
Hours of operation: Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., occasional overtime is required to meet deadlines
