SCIENTIFIC DATABASE CURATOR IN HINXTON | RELOCATE TO THE UK WITH WORK VISA SPONSORSHIP

As a curator, you will have the exciting opportunity to contribute your scientific expertise to the annotation and further development of the MetaboLights resource for metabolomics and multi-omics data submission helping us to respond to this exponential period of growth. You will report to the Head of Metabolomics and will be part of an international and multidisciplinary team. This will be a project-based fixed-term contract for three years. This role is based in Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK. You will be required to relocate if you are based overseas and you will receive a generous relocation package to support you. You will:

  • Manage data submissions and help desk requests from our community.

  • Appraise datasets and provide specifications for the technical development of the resource in line with changes in the field

  • Ensure data integrity with high quality curation of metabolomics and lipidomics studies, maintaining and developing common vocabulary / ontology across datasets.

  • Work with other EMBL-EBI teams such as ChEBI, PRIDE, EGA, UniProt and the Enzyme Portal and external global partners to deliver the aims of collaborative projects including a comprehensive multi-omics service.

  • Contribute to MetaboLights outreach and training, including online training content, webinars and training courses.

You have

  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biology and a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Metabolomics;

  • Experience with analytical techniques including mass spectrometry and/or NMR and with metabolomics-related research data including study design and result interpretation;

  • Previous experience in using scientific databases;

  • Be IT literate with experience in Excel and command line operations;

  • Experience working as part of a team;

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and fluent in both written and spoken English;

  • A self-starter approach, ability to work to deadlines, and have a very detail oriented approach to work;

You might also have

  • Experience with lipidomics research including study design and result interpretation

  • Knowledge of curation and understanding of the use of ontologies and data standards.

  • Experience in using Python, R or another language to analyse and report on biological data;
