RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN OXFORDSHIRE | RELOCATE TO THE UK WITH WORK VISA SPONSORSHIP

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in Experimental Particle Physics. you will be focused on hardware activity leading to the design and construction of our (Outer Detector which acts as an important veto detector for cosmic ray muons), including measurements with photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) and R&D for wavelength-shifting (WLS) plates (to shift the UV light produced via Cherenkov radiation by particles traversing the detector water into the visible spectrum). You will also be engaged on a HyperK frame at RAL testing various detector frame components. We offer Visa Sponsorship.

List of Duties and Responsibilities:

Work on the HyperK OD R&D and a HyperK test frame at RAL including both hardware work and data analysis – there may also be some simulation work involved
 
Participate in international meetings on a regular basis, both via video conference and in person (travel may be in Europe or in Japan)
 
Work collaboratively within the HyperK group in PPD and within the wider HyperK collaboration

Essential:

Ph.D. (completed or about to complete) in experimental Particle Physics or related field

Experience of working on medium or large scale particle physics experiments

Experience of particle physics data analysis and/or good particle physics hardware experience (for example taking data with photomultiplier tubes in a lab)

Ability to work collaboratively with large groups of people from many different countries

High degree of self-motivation

Good time management

Willingness to travel to Europe and/or Japan for collaboration meetings

Willingness to work in the laboratory at RAL

Desirable:

Ph.D. (completed or about to complete) in neutrino physics

Knowledge of C++ and/or CERN Root
 
Good communications skills
 
Ability to work on several activities in parallel
 
Driving License
