As the Research Analyst, you work within our Analysis & Research Team (ART), which delivers a responsive, data-led advisory service to global partners. You will be working alongside another Research Analyst and the Information Manager and report to the Senior Analyst. ART is based at our Headquarters in The Hague. As this department develops, you will be a key member dedicated to providing NGO HQs with global products, services, coordination and training.
Critical to the department’s success is its ability to coordinate support from our 16 country offices and its unique access to the Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC). The CHDC is an innovative, user-friendly platform that centralises data from INSO’s country programmes which enables quantitative analysis of over a million verified security incidents. ART offers a range of scheduled, request-based and ad hoc reporting to partners, supporting evidence-based decision-making among INSO’s humanitarian partners worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to and collaborate with requests and initiatives within the global humanitarian space involving NGOs, the UN, donors, etc. regarding humanitarian safety and access.
Develop, write and publish INSO’s NGO Incidents Overview, our global monthly report that assesses NGO incident trends across INSO’s platforms.
Support the production of the Safety and Access Review, our global quarterly report examining the correlation of conflict activity and NGO incidents.
Provide tailored analysis pieces and present catered briefings for NGO partners on specific contextual dynamics or challenges related to humanitarian safety and access.
Liaise with INSO’s Regional Analysts regarding contributions to global reports, webinars and analytical training.
Identify and cultivate a network of contacts within the broader humanitarian community and beyond to expand INSO’s global visibility.
Ensure the continuity and consistency between INSO’s consolidated internal data and externally distributed analytical products on a global level.
Effectively represent INSO’s principles of independence, impartiality and neutrality as well as actively promote INSO as an integral member of the humanitarian community.
Other Responsibilities
Strategy Development. Assist the team in devising and implementing global initiatives related to strategic positioning and prospective partnerships.
Programme Support. Engage with other HQ functions to strengthen organisational coordination and development.
Crisis Management. Offer support to enhance the awareness, preparedness or response of INSO HQ and its global partners in the event of an emergency.
Mandatory Requirements
Fluency in English (required) and French (desired)
Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject.
Relevant experience working as an analyst or advisor in NGOs, international organisations, the military, risk consultancies or journalism.
Minimum three years’ experience working in and on insecure/post-conflict environments in an analytical capacity.
Excellent writing and analytical skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet tight deadlines.
Demonstrable understanding of safety discourses and dynamics as they relate to the humanitarian infrastructure, NGO operations and coordination mechanisms.
Preferred Characteristics
Practical experience of applying the principles of intelligence or risk analysis in the creation of concise, accessible products that prioritise the audience’s needs.
Pre-existing field experience, contextual knowledge and familiarity with conflict analysis and sensitivity.
A firm understanding of relevant narratives within and beyond the humanitarian community.
Technical proficiency in Power BI.

Terms & Conditions:
This is a full-time, fixed-term position based in The Hague, renewable 12-month contract with a gross monthly salary of €5,000 plus 8% vakantiegeld (vacation pay) and 2.5 days of annual leave per month. The post is eligible for a Highly Skilled Migrant visa and relocation allowance.
