Our Chemical Process Development organization is looking for talented scientists with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry (synthesis, methods or kinetics/mechanistic study) to join our team. The successful candidate will collaborate across our organization to deliver our portfolio to patients.

Our team works across our small molecule and new modality portfolio, developing innovative science to accomplish our key goals of designing, developing, controlling, and implementing safe, efficient and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of clinical candidates.

The overarching goal of our work is to establish the fundamental process knowledge needed to supply drug substance throughout clinical development, and the transition of programs to key regulatory filings and commercial manufacturing.

This position is in our Development Chemistry organization within Chemical Process Development and is located in our BMS facilities in Moreton, UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a member of our Development Chemistry team, you will be accountable for designing, developing, and studying innovative new routes to the complex molecules in our portfolio.

  • You will be part of our highly collaborative global team looking to invent novel disconnections to complex molecules, establish and apply innovative methods and reactions, and develop safe, efficient, and robust processes for the synthesis of drug candidates.

  • The overarching goal of our work is to develop the fundamental process knowledge needed to support the transition of such processes from our labs, to clinical supply, to regulatory filings and manufacturing vendors.

  • As a member of our Moreton team you will closely collaborate with our Analytical Chemistry team in Moreton to develop the knowledge and controls needed for the successful supply of clinical materials and characterization of key compounds.

  • Responsibilities include collaborative engagement with regional FTE groups, academic collaborators, EU partners and cross-functional/cross-continental BMS teams to drive the advancement of the BMS portfolio.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a strong background in the theory and practice of synthetic organic chemistry, possess excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrate a thorough understanding of synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms.

  • A Ph.D. in organic chemistry

  • Additional related research experience.

  • Expertise in the purification, analysis, and characterization of organic compounds (Chromatography and NMR, MS, IR spectroscopy).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment are required.
