Job Purpose

  • To enable service users to remain in their own homes by providing the support and care needed to help them achieve maximum independence.

  • To work 'with' clients to achieve outcomes, rather than working 'for' them.

  • To encourage clients to regain their confidence all the while promoting their self-respect and dignity

  • To provide the highest standard of care provision every day of the year, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays
     

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To undertake duties as identified in the client’s care plan.

  • To assist the client to remain safe and secure at home.

  • To help the client to look after their own health

  • To appropriately record and report any changes in circumstances in the client’s care plan, social or health condition to the line manager.

  • To comply with the risk assessment and to be responsible for notifying your line manager of any changes you think may be necessary.

  • To notify the office daily of any changes made to the programme of work

  • To ensure that your calls are electronically recorded by signing in and signing out of your visit.

  • To participate in a four week rolling rota. This may include working alternate weekends and some Bank Holidays.

  • To be accountable for your work practice and take responsibility for maintaining and improving your knowledge and skills.

  • To respect the rights of clients, and to strive to establish and maintain their trust and confidence, and that of their families.

  • To uphold the values of Harino Care – Respect, Dignity, Compassion, Excellence and Responsibility.
     

The tasks and expectations of a care assistant include

  • Assisting clients with personal care tasks which will include; washing, showering, bathing, dressing and undressing, oral hygiene, toileting and getting in and out of bed.

  • Assisting clients with their mobility using the appropriate equipment as instructed

  • Preparing and/or heating meals, drinks and evening snacks where necessary

  • Providing assistance with continence including: help with continence pads, toileting, catheter and colostomy care and emptying and cleaning commodes.

  • Maintaining a hygienic environment

  • Domestic cleaning, doing the laundry and fire lighting (where it is specified on the care plan)

  • Shopping, collecting the pension/prescription and paying bills

  • Monitoring food and drink intake

  • Enabling clients to take their prescribed medication and completing the necessary documentation.

  • Transporting and escorting clients

  • To participate in regular supervision, team meetings and annual appraisal

  • To undertake training as necessary to perform your duties

  • To comply with all Harino Care Limited Policies and Procedures

  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the service.
