This post is part of the Estate Development Team, who delivers a challenging portfolio or projects through effective planning & implementation each year across an estate comprising Tutorial, Commercial, and Student Residence spaces. You will be highly motivated and be able to demonstrate an outstanding level of Project Management skills acquired across multi-faceted organizations. They will have experience working within a large organization and have developed an in-depth knowledge and experience of construction project management. Manage multiple building or building-services development projects from inception to completion, including client liaison, preparation of tender documentation, cost estimating, and budget analysis/control.
Ensure successful delivery of projects in respect of quality/time/cost, taking responsibility for establishing and maintaining excellent communication links with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Prepare detailed specifications, CAD drawings and tender documents for building development projects and/or repairs of a specialist nature, e.g. re-roofing works, fire precaution works, etc.
Supervise the works through the entire project life-cycle, including quality audits and contract administration (eg valuation payments, variation orders, and the like) required to ensure the efficient running and successful delivery of the contract.
Observe procedures and policies relative to the scope of work to ensure compliance with statutory legislation and University directives
Work with the internal H&S Adviser and/or external Principal Designers to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff, students, and the general public during construction activities.
The post-holder will be part of the Estate department's on-call rota, providing first-line response out-of-hours with remuneration in line with the University’s current policy.
Continued professional development by attending seminars and courses relevant to the scope of work.
Carry out any other duties as may, from time to time, be required and appropriate to the post.
Qualifications
Relevant qualification to at least HND level in a building or building services related discipline
Significant experience working within a contract management/project management role within the construction or higher education sector
Strong IT skills, in particular with the use of project-related software (eg MS Project, Excel)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Thorough understanding in the use and application of the Building Regulations and CDM Regulations
Ability to manage a portfolio of projects with often competing priorities
Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Highly motivated to deliver to tight deadlines with a demanding environment
Able to demonstrate a creative and innovate approach to problem solving
An inherent customer service ethos
Ability and willingness to travel between University sites and other locations as and when required
Qualifications
Membership of a professional body relevant to either construction or project management (eg CIOB, RICS, CMI)
Qualification in project management (eg PRINCE 2 or API) and/or health & safety (eg IOSH)
Degree in Construction or Building Services related field.
Knowledge of asbestos management and associated procedures in relation to building development
Demonstrable proficiency in the use of AutoCAD
Strong knowledge of contract administration and contract law (notably JCT and NEC suite of contracts)
Knowledge of project management software (eg Brightworks)
