The RF Group and the Electronics Unit have initiated the development of a digital low level RF system (DLLRF), for the implementation of a fast RF feedback system. It will allow controlling the future double frequency RF system comprising the existing accelerating cavities and new harmonic cavities that will boost the performance of the ESRF storage ring.

Your missions will be to:

  • Contribute as main FPGA and digital electronics developer to the construction and validation of the new DLLRF system.

  • Interact with the staff of the RF Group and the Electronics Unit to build on the expertise, technologies and methodology in use at the ESRF.

Your main tasks:

  • Complete and validate the architectural choices of the new digital low level RF system.

  • Implementation of the application framework (FPGA firmware) including the optical communication links between the various modules that will configure the fast digital RF feedback system.

  • Proceed to the study, comparison, practical implementation and exercising of the digital regulation algorithms that will be considered and evaluated for the project.

  • Complete the implementation, test, deployment and documentation of the final DDLRF system in the accelerator complex.
