The Associate Chief Engineer is tasked with managing the development of autonomous vehicle programs, both internally and with joint OEM partners. The Associate Chief Engineer will lead internal engineering teams towards the successful execution of a global autonomous product. They are expected to be capable of independent decision making and acting as a subject matter expert for the product’s capabilities, bill of materials, budget, and timing. The Associate Chief Engineer will be required to ensure all technical teams are aligned with the product vision and lead the resolution of technical issues. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the automotive and autonomous spaces with expertise in deploying autonomous or ADAS systems within large automotive OEMs.

Opportunity Responsibilities and Mission

• Leading technical development teams to ensure project success from vehicle conception to start of production

• Providing technical guidance for architecture definition and component selection

• Directing the resolution of complex technical challenges

• Working cross-functionally to resolve roadblocks impacting engineering deliverables

• Ensuring that engineering products meet all specified (product, systems, component, business, and timing) requirements

• Providing status updates and outlining recovery plans, as necessary, to executive leadership

• Working alongside the product, systems and project management teams to ensure successful project execution

• Aligning with business objectives and external partner/customer needs

• Leading presentations to outline product line details for both internal and external stakeholders

Experience and Skills required

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field

• Minimum of 5 years experience in vehicle software and hardware design, development, and manufacturing

• Demonstrated ability to drive technical teams in meeting project imperatives

• Thorough knowledge of product development, manufacturing processes, and vehicle development timelines

• Experience managing external supplier/partner relationships

• Ability to effectively influence cross-functional teams

• Proficient in C, C++ and Python programming languages

• Experience coding for Linux and QNX based operating systems

• Familiarity with Autosar Classic and Adaptive standards

• Knowledge of automotive serial data interfaces such as CAN 2.0, CAN FD and Ethernet

• Understanding of diagnostic standards such as UDS, J1939 and DoIP

• Familiarity with Matlab and Simulink

• Experience leading technical presentations to executive leadership

• Effective communicator and leader

• Experience in breaking down complex technical problems as appropriate for the audience

Preferred

• Master’s Degree in engineering

• Technical leadership experience

• Experience with automotive cybersecurity and electrical architecture security hardening

• Prior experience working for a major automotive OEM or supplier

• Development of ADAS or autonomous systems

• Experience designing components for manufacturing and serviceability

• Familiarity with automotive regulations and best practices

• Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 26262

• Experience developing AUTOSAR Classic and Adaptive compliant ECUs

• Proficiency in agile development methodologies

• Design for Six Sigma Certification
